The Prince Rupert Area
Located on the beautiful North Coast of British Columbia, Prince Rupert (pop.15,000) is a quaint fishing town a short distance from the Alaskan Border and the Queen Charlotte Islands. The region is easily reached by daily flights from Vancouver.
The City was incorporated in March 10, 1910 and has the deepest harbor in North America and year-round ice-free facilities. During WWII the city served both Canada and the United States as a strategic military post. An estimated 150,000 Canadian and US troops passed through the city.
Surrounding Prince Rupert is some of the richest salmon waters in the world. Salmon runs from three of the four rivers on the west coast that still produce 90 lb. Chinook salmon converge in the Prince Rupert area. Even salmon heading down to the Columbia and Frazier rivers pass through the waters off Prince Rupert.
In addition to phenomenal salmon fishing, the area is
also known for some of the best bottom fishing on the
west coast. Your guide will be happy to show you where
monster ling cod and the occasional "barn door"
halibut can be found. The region also boasts some of
the most beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife on
the west coast. Large pods of orca, migrating humpback
whales, soaring eagles, and giant grizzly bears are
common sights in the area.
